BIO
Currently a member of Detroit's legendary Howling Diablos, guitarist/producer/singer Mike Smith has been rocking the free world all his life. He's jammed with everybody from Uncle John (Johnny Winter Group) & Jimmy McCarty (Rockets & Detroit Wheels) to Frank Hannon (Tesla) & Kid Rock. He has also played many shows opening for the likes of John Entwistle (The Who), Derek Trucks, Gov't. Mule, Jason Bonham, Dokken, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Mitch Ryder, Missing Persons, Live, Hank Williams, Jr. & Michelle Branch. Mike Smith has also been involved in studio sessions for Arif Mardin, Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, George Clinton, R.L. Burnside (produced by Martin Gross), Anita Baker & Wynona Judd.

Born with a full head of hair and full-on rock attitude, Mike Smith destroyed his first drum set at age of 5. "I just remember I loved Animal from the Muppets, so that's how I played!" Then came AC/DC, Kiss & Van Halen, starting an endless love affair with the electric guitar - acoustic guitars were of little interest until the end of high school, R.U. High. "Jeff [Ball - his long-time guitar instructor] just kept pushing it on me, and I realized that you have to have the whole package. You have to be able to play electric, acoustic, slide, blues, reggae, jazz, fingerpick - everything, and you have to sing, too. The singing thing came from going to a lot of jams, and I noticed that guitarists who sing work more." Mike also reads music & likes to do blind sessions for other artists or companies, just walking in and playing off charts or improvising.
