Acclaimed cellist and composer Tanya Anisimova has won external fame for her fervid and unorthodox interpretations, especially of the music by J.S. Bach.

Ms. Anisimova's interest in J. S. Bach began as a child but intensified ten years ago as she was writing her doctoral thesis at Yale University focusing on his Six Sonatas and Partitas for Violin Solo and Six Cello Solo Suites. A year later, Tanya recorded her first CD with her own transcription of the Bach Violin Partita No.2. Produced by the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, where Ms. Anisimova was composer in residence, this CD also featured solo cello works by contemporary American composers scripted specifically for Tanya, as well as Tanya's original composition "Song on Mt. San Angelo".

In 2001 Ms. Anisimova released a new 2-CD album with her transcription of J.S. Bach's Six Violin Sonatas and Partitas. This recording brought immediate attention from musicians and musicologists both in Europe and North America. The compelling music from this CD was featured recently on the Quotidian Theater production of the Anton Chekhov's play, "Seagull".

In 2004 Ms. Anisimova completed her recording of Bach Six Cello Suites.
The CD was thus described by Heather Kurzbauer of The Strad Magazine:
"What a tour de force! I had tears in my eyes!"
The distinguished cellist Janos Starker called this album "thought-provoking".
In the spring of 2004, Ms. Anisimova taught a master-course and presented a series of lectures on the Bach's Cello Suites and his Violin Sonatas and Partitas at the UNAM University in Mexico City.

As a composer Tanya Anisimova has received grants from "Meet the Composer", "Mid-Atlantic Arts", and "International Artists Residencies" foundations. Her compositions have been described by Joseph McLellan of the Washington Post as "melodious, subtly mystical, and deeply emotional". Her music has been performed in the U.S.A., Italy, Russia, Ukraine, and Mexico.
Two of her works are featured on the "Concert in Moscow" CD, which was recorded live in 2002 during Tanya's solo recital at the Chamber Hall of the Moscow Conservatory.

Ms. Anisimova has performed chamber music with Claude Frank, Raphael Hillyer, Erick Friedman, and Elliot Fisk. She has toured extensively throughout Europe and North America, playing in such concert venues as Merkin Hall in New York City, Jordan Hall in Boston, Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada, Smetana Hall in Prague, Beethoven Hall in Bonn and, most recently, the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Her numerous radio appearances include live broadcasts on the "Off the Record" show, WGBH, Boston, and the "Young Performers Showcase", WQXR, New York.

Ms. Anisimova has won several major competitions and awards, including Concertino Prague Competition and Min-On Chamber Music Competition in Tokyo. She holds degrees from the Moscow Conservatory, Boston University and Yale University. For the past six years Tanya has been the Artistic Director of the acclaimed Mousetrap Concert Series located in the historic Washington Grove, Maryland.

Ms. Anisimova's fall engagements include world premiere of her own Quintet for cello and String Quartet on Casa Maria Concert Series with members of St. Petersburg Quartet, as well as recitals in Connecticut and Massachusetts. The Russian premiere of the Quintet will take place at the Moscow Conservatory in June, 2006, as a part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration Concert of the Prokofiev String Quartet.

In February, 2005 Ms. Anisimova played the inauguration recital at the newly restored 16th century Capilla de San Agustin in Morelia, Mexico. In January, 2006 she will return to Mexico for a series of solo recitals and chamber music concerts with cellist Natalia Gutman.
