FOLK: Folk Pop, POP: California Pop
Details:
"I love this record (Shine I). I've really fallen for it!" - Bonnie Simmons - KPFA(Bay Area 94.1FM)Radio host.
Performer Magazine West Coast (March 2006) Reviews Recorded - Mia and Jonah - Shine I - "Thereâs something truly trippy about Mia and Jonahâs new album, Shine I... The caterwauling in the background during the chorus of âMustard Seed,â for example, is infectious, creepy, and brilliant all at the same time... The poetry in their lyrics is poignant and heart-wrenching... Theyâve taken inspiration from jazz, folk, rock and pop, and made it into their own very distinct, wonderful creation. Thereâs not a low point on Shine I, and each song is full of the type of timeless, intuitive beauty that makes music memorable."
The Owl Mag.com (08/21/2005)CD Reviews - Mia and Jonah - Shine I ""...exquisitely crafted harmonies. The duo's voices complement each other exceptionally well. Jonah's smooth, slightly mournful tenor never tries to be too soulful. Mia's clear, ethereal voice is soft, but she can belt it out when she needs to. Shine I is essentially a mature, heartfelt balance of lyrics and arrangements, and truly a pleasure to listen to."
Mia and Jonah's debut album 'Shine I' incorperates the talents of artists John Hanes (drums-Bonnie Raitt, Richard Thompson), Seth Ford-Young (upright bass-Tom Waits), and Myles Boisen(electric guitar/banjo-Tom Waits).
Since their arrival in the Bay Area, Mia and Jonah have shared stages with Ben Harper, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Jolie Holland, Toshi Reagon, Erika Luckett, and Austin Willacy. They have performed venues ranging from Bay Area's Cafe Du Nord to NYC's Bitter End.
