Mel has been a full time musician for the majority of her life after leaving school at 16 years of age to pursue a live music career. He first band was the successful 7 piece group 'This House is Jumping' who performed live throughout South Australia and Victoria, produced numerous recordings, (with one single reaching the top 40 SA-FM charts), and worked as a small independent record label during the late eighties and early nineties.

During 1993 Mel felt the need to take her music in a new direction and formed the musical fusion band Emerald Sun, with Yanya Boston on drums. Emerald sun had an almost cult following in Adelaide, released one album 'did you ever wish....' and collaborated with other artists including independent theatre companies.
During 1995 Mel met the future members of Fruit at a local song writing organization S.C.A.L.A (song writers, composers and lyricists association). In June 0f 1995 Fruit was formed after collaborating at a Women Performing event in Adelaide. Emerald Sun and Fruit coexisted for sometime with both groups enjoying the healthy buzz that the music created around the Adelaide live music scene.
As the strength of the groups started to crescendo Mel felt the need to make a decision upon which group to focus all of her energy.
Fruit was it. Mel loved the diversity, the shifting focus of more than one lead vocalist, the power of big vocal harmony and the positive attitude toward sharing the business side of working in a band full time. Creating what was to become fruitmusic the independent record label.

Since 1995 while playing in Fruit, Mel also worked as a composer and live performer for numerous theatre productions, and major events including the millennium event with The Adelaide Symphony orchestra.
She has co-produced The Into One Project, a multi - layered event aimed at raising the awareness of animal cruelty with all the proceeds going to The International Fund for animal welfare and Animal Liberation S.A.

Mel has received many awards for her musicianship and production skills and continues to be an excited and inspired part of the creative and ground breaking musical group, Fruit.
