MELOMANE is a Brooklyn based collective whose uncompromised love for baroque pop, punk, and orchestral music fuels its distinct, cinematic sound. Infectious vocal harmonies, guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, cello, trumpet, violin, and sonic exploration are adventurously blended in a song experience rooted equally in emotion and craft.
Glaciers (2006,Vermillion Music), Melomaneâs 3rd full length CD release is the groupâs most stunning to date. The group has expanded on their enormously appealing artful arrangements and peak repeatedly throughout this collection of songs, notably with the track Iâm in Love with Love/The Ballot is the Bullet, a timely and personal comment on the American situation as it stands. But take your pick, this is absolutely a record without filler. Melomaneâs first two releases Solresol (2003) and Resolvo (2001) received rave reviews throughout the US and Europe including Rolling Stone, Magnet, The Village Voice, Intro and more. These CDs are available in the US on the bandâs Vermillion Music label via the bandâs website www.melomane.org, and other online distributors and in Europe through Hamburg-based XXS Records/Indigo.
Originally conceived in 1998 by front man Pierre de Gaillande, Melomaneâs line-up solidified in late 1999 to include bassist/vocalist Daria Klotz, cellist/synth-stylist Frank Heer, keyboardist Quentin Jennings, and drummer Kenny Savelson. Frequent additional performers include Catherine McCrae on violin, Dennis Cronin and Jesse Neuman on trumpet.
Over 6 years, Melomane has performed regularly in NYC at venues such as Joeâs Pub, Tonic, Mercury Lounge, BAM Cafe, and others. The group tours Europe each year and its US tours have included appearances at SXSW in Austin, TX, and regular visits throughout the northeast in particular, live radio appearances on the nationally broadcast XM Radio, KXLU in Los Angeles and WBRS in Boston. Melomane has appeared in New York, nationally and internationally with artists such as Keren Ann, The National, Arab Strap, Eleni Mandell, and many others. The bandâs European agency is Berthold Seliger in Berlin (Calexico, Flaming Lips). Tracks from Resolvo were featured on the smash hit MTV shows "The Osbournes," "Road Rules"and "Daria" and Melomaneâs music has been licensed to several independent films and magazine compilations.
