Details:
Pianist Horacio Nuguid has inspired and captivated listeners with his "digital precision, elegance, and beautiful tone." A self-taught musician until turning fourteen years old, Horacio entered the Conservatory of Music at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines as a recipient of a scholarship awarded by the school. Among his teachers were Milagros de Ocampo and Stella Goldenberg Brimo in piano, Bernardino Custodio in conducting, and Fr. Manuel Maramba in composition. At age 18, Horacio entered the National Music Competition for Young Artists and was awarded the top prize. Concert engagements soon followed including those presented at the German Cultural Center, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Austrian Embassy, and the house of the American Ambassador. In 1985, after accepting an invitation to study in the US, Horacio presented a final concert in Manila, which was broadcasted live on public television.

In the United States, Horacio subsequently completed the Master of Music degree at the University of Northern Iowa and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His principal teachers were Ian Hobson and Howard Aibel in piano, Nathaniel Rosen in chamber music, Eric Dalheim in collaborative piano, and James Lyke in piano pedagogy. Horacio garnered prizes and commendations for his performances in a number of national and international piano competitions in the United States. He performed concertos with different orchestras and appeared in recitals of piano music and chamber music in the US, Philippines, Austria, and Switzerland.
