Who Are The Night-Creatures?
The 'Night-Creatures' are an Orange County-based band, an area just south-east of Los Angeles. Most of the bandâs members have performed in a variety of bands in and around Orange County and the Inland Empire for many years. In the closing months of 2005, keyboardist Tom Bellone and drummer Bill McFadden discussed forming a new band. The idea was simple. Find other musicians who wanted to focus on performing at shows in support of national acts in some of the areaâs more intimate concert venues. The two began attending a local blues and rock jam night searching for other like-minded musicians who would bring the sought-after instrumentation, skills, talent and personality to the mix.
Further defining their path, the Night-Creatures would feature music written and arranged by several of the bandâs members, and almost immediately began the creation of unique variations of styles and sounds, which reflected the diversity of its membersâ musical backgrounds. Within one-monthâs time, the initial group was formed and began a six week rehearsal deadline for their debut show⦠opening for The Rick Derringer Band at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, Ca., in March of 2006. The 'Creatures' drew wildly enthusiastic responses from the crowd for their rockinâ blues-styled music, with slight latin and jazz influence. Later, the band received generous kudos from both Tom Curiale and Charlie Torres, Derringer's drummer and bass player.
Since that first show, the Night-Creatures have appeared with a number of well-known national acts, such as Terri Nunn & Berlin in April â06 (sold-out show), Martha Davis & The Motels in June â06, The Flying Other Brothers (featuring Pete Sears and Jimmy Sanchez) with G. E. Smith in July â06, John Mayall and The Bluesbreakers in August â06 (sold-out show), Coco Montoya and Johnny A in September â06, and Rod Piazza & The Mighty Flyers in September â06. In November, the band is slated to perform for charity event organizers for the Orange County Special Olympics and Parkinsonâs Foundation. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the bandâs CD will be donated to these charities at the event. We welcome opportunities to thank the community that has done so much to support us this year, and to be a part of efforts to assist those who need a helping hand.
Our self-titled CD was completed in August and is now available online, world-wide, at CD Baby at www.cdbaby.com/cd/nightcreatures. The disc features 8 original compositions, and one cover of a Robert Johnson tune, Walkinâ Blues, licensed by Music & Media International, Inc.
The Night-Creatures have appeared with several traditional blues acts, but their music does not fit strictly within that genre. Many of the groupsâ songs on this first CD have sprung from a variety of rock, blues, Latin, and jazz influences. Still, the bandâs music and performances appear to hold broad appeal for a wide-range of audiences and age groups.
The Night-Creatures are: Tom Bellone (Hammond B3 organ/piano/vocals), Elden Lisalda (saxophone/guitar/vocals), Jim Jensen (synthesizer/guitar/vocals), Paul âMr. Pâ Lange (bass guitar), Shige Fukuyama (lead guitar), Bill McFadden (drums/vocals).
