*About Odelia*

Odelia formed in Fullerton, CA in the fall of 2001. The band has an unstructured approach to creating music, incorporating loops and non-traditional rock instruments, switching off said instruments during songs, and a general DIY approach. The bandâs sound can be described as dynamic and atmospheric. Like their contemporaries, Odelia can be categorized in many genres. They have been described as experimental, post-rock, avant-rock, and instrumental. However, Odelia is comfortable with being described simply as a rock band.

*About Songs for a Clownfish*

Odelia began writing material for the album in late 2003, shortly after the release of their second album The Angel as an Imposter. Odeliaâs third full length album, Songs For A Clownfish bookends a section of time in which the band evolved and fully adjusted to writing and performing as a four-piece. It was also the time in which the band began working closely with visual artist John Hagan who frequently paints along side the band during live performances. The band invited Hagan to create the artwork for the album; of which the end result is a stunning package incorporating several of his vibrant pieces.

Songs for a Clownfish began one night in late 2003 when the band decided to set up a single microphone, start playing and record what happened. The recording captured the band in its element, creating in the moment. Some of those moments would later be crafted into songs that would materialize on the album. Later that night the phrase âsongs for a clownfishâ was scribbled down on the master recording in reference to a picture of a clownfish that hung on the studio wall. Two years later it seemed an apt title.

Like the bandâs previous recordings, all tracks on Songs for a Clownfish were recorded by band member Jason Hensley. During the recording of Songs for a Clownfish Hensley used a low-fi approach; embracing live recording, minimal micing and use of room noise in an attempt to capture the bandâs live sound. The album undeniably does an excellent job of capturing the groupâs energy and dynamics. All of the tracks were recorded in the bandâs studio and homes sporadically between March 2004 and September 2005. At this time the band is scheduling a string of live performances in support of the album. This album marks Odeliaâs first release with The Gaia Project: An Independent Record Label based out of Southern California.
