Jazz piano trio. The sound is natural, clean and spacious. Our music, though based in the traditions of jazz piano trio, has a breathing, conversant quality where interaction rather than role playing is emphasized.

Details:
The CD features musicians that I have been playing with regularly for the past two years. Richie Barshay, our drummer, is now on the road in Herbie Hancockâs Quintet. Richie has a unique sound and approach to drumming that is obvious almost from the first notes of this recording. Richie, along with his best friend, our bassist, Jorge Roeder, just graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music, where they played together in countless ensembles, projects and recordings. I have played with Jorge almost every weekend for the past three years and it is quite clear to me that both of these young musicians are rising stars with original voices.

Impelled by the exciting interaction of these two players, who are half my age, my playing has taken on a new sense of drama, color possibilities and power. The recording was made at WGBH Studios on a very fine Steinway piano and recorded beautifully by Antonio Oliart Ros. The sound is natural, clean and spacious. Our music, though based in the traditions of jazz piano trio, has a breathing conversant quality where interaction rather than role playing is emphasized.

Pianist and composer Bert Seager has been a leading player on the jazz scene in Boston Massachusetts since 1981. His eight internationally released compact discs have won him unanimous critical acclaim from the New York Times, Keyboard Magazine, The Boston Globe and many other publications. He has performed and recorded with Joe Lovano, Tim Hagans, George Garzone, Bob Moses and Joe Hunt. He has performed in ensembles on stage with George Mraz, Miroslav Vitous, Mick Goodrick, Tom Harrell, Ben Street, Chris Speed, and Billy Drewes. Percussionist Richie Barshay, most noted as a member of the Herbie Hancock Quartet since 2003, has established himself as a prominent musical voice of his generation. Regarded as "a player to watch" by JazzTimes magazine, he maintains a busy international touring schedule with some of today's top artists including Hancock, the Klezmatics, and many others. In September of 2004 he was named an American Musical Envoy by the U.S. State Department, along with the renowned Latin-Jazz ensemble Insight. Now based in Brooklyn, New York after 5 years on the Boston music scene, Richie began playing Jazz and Afro-Latin music during his youth and has expanded his focus to Indian rhythmic concepts and tabla, inspiring his 2005 recording debut "Homework" and the launching of his new band, The Richie Barshay Project. http://www.richiebarshay.com/

Bassist Jorge Roeder, from Lima, Peru was invited to study cello at the Rimsky Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg, Russia. After taking up the double bass, Jorge became assistant principal bassist of the Lima Philharmonic and Opera orchestras for the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Moving to Boston in 2002, Jorge received a scholarship from the New England Conservatory of Music, and began jazz studies with Cecil McBee, John Lockwood, Danilo Perez, Oscar Stagnaro, Jerry Bergonzi, Bob Moses and Dominique Eade. Jorge is currently member of the Richie Barshay project, and appears on the CD âHomeworkâ Jorge is also a member of The Dan Tepfer trio, which performs jazz with a distinctive shape; Khevre, a sextet that performs new Jewish music; and Avantrio, dedicated to performing Peruvian music with a different setting.
