THE GOSPEL QUARTET SOUND IS A SOUND LOVED ALL OVER THE WORLD BY AUDIENCES OF ALL AGES. Nobody brings that sound into modern times like this group. Phava has found a unique way to fuse the energy and excitement coined by more contemporary groups with the pure simplicity of the more traditional groups, producing a style and sound that can be enjoyed by everyone. Phava was formed in 1997 by five singers from the touring Gospel musical stageplays "A Piece of My Soul and "From Grass Roots to Glory", which originated from Chicago. Each performer added their own brand of vocal ability, showmanship, creativity and love of ministering through gospel, to bring this idea to life.
Since then, Phava has evolved into a force to be reckoned with culminating with their first CD release, Phava Live - Already Been To The Water, recorded at Chicago's famous Old Town School of Folk Music when opening for bluegrass legend, Doyle Lawson.
PHAVA has toured throughout the US as well as Europe, bringing their unique and heartwarming, soul-reaching sounds to the most discriminating audiences. Performing songs they grew up singing in their respective houses of worship, PHAVA is accompanied only by an accoustic guitar and the occasional tambourine.
Under the leadership of Big Llou Johnson (bass) PHAVA is comprised of four very talented male lead and ensemble vocalists: James Rushing (Tenor), Al Engram (Baritone) and co-founder Jesse Dean Stanford (Tenor). For the first time, PHAVA has added a female voice to the ensemble, the incomparable, Laura Walls (Mezzo-Soprano) along with phenom guitarist Alex Harris, who is also a founding member.
Their musicianship is astounding and their presence is breath-taking. You don't want to die and go to heaven without experiencing - PHAVA: Traditional Gospel with a new FLAVA!!!!!! May God Bless and Keep You!
