An eclectic blend of African music and titillating contemporary club beats resulting in edgy club dance music

Yanju Brings African Music Straight into the world clubs.

10 MP3 Songs
WORLD: African, ELECTRONIC: Dance

Details:
Yanju began composing music before he was twelve years old. His music career began at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, where he joined the "Phaime band" as a back up singer and principal songwriter whilst studying Performing Arts.

Yanju has performed at the annual "Vibrations Festival", London, featuring Dawn Penn (2005) JJC and the 419 (2004) and Omar (2003).

Yanju was a resident performer in "Mycenae house", Blackheath, London. His original compositions have become anthems and favorites amongst the Mycenae house regulars.

Iwa Yanju's debut album contains 10 tracks of some really eclectic fusion of African acoustic and club dance beats resulting in an edgy club dance music dubbed African modern music.

Yanju's lyrics, whose vocals are originally and poetically colored with technology, are sung in English and Yoruba, one of the most spoken Nigerian languages.

Full of catchy tunes, where syncopated African rhythms crisscross club beats effortlessly, "IWA" is characterized by an unusual and uncompromising melting pot of polyrhythmic sounds and Western synthesized beats, where the two musical cultures are amazingly respected and recognizable in such a way that one never dominates the other.

Reviews

"There's far more to Nigerian music than Afro-beat, as Yoruba master percussionist Yanju (Iwa's founder) proves on this under-the-radar, 10-tune set of what I'm loathe to call Afro-House"
Jon Armstrong BBC World Music http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/world/reviews/yanju_iwa.shtml

"This is a stunner of a disc. Yanju is splendidly inventive, a talent fully developed. Great disc".
Chris Nickson Global Village http://www.globalvillageidiot.net/reviews.htm

"Yanju's album Iwa is breaking ground here, in an age where most of his contemporaries are obsessed with funky jam sessions, Yanju provides yet another way of merging African beats and themes with modern music, with stunning results"
Ike E

"An interesting mix of African Vocals with housey cut up beats and oddball African elements which makes some useful things to play out with"
David Hucker The Beat Magazine volume 24 no 3 2005

"This is amazing. So many different worlds, yet so firmly presented art".
John Emerald freelance Critic
