Details:

This powerful Texas Duo lays down Roots - Americana like you would expect to hear from a Texas band. Rhythm & Blues, Rock'n Roll, Swing, Boogie-Woogie, Rockabilly and Surf Guitar are all apart of The Tu-Tones classic sound. Legendary and nationally recognized harmonica player, Stompinâ Bill Johnston, excites audiences with his dead-on vocals and unbelievable harp tone and riffs. Johnstonâs chromatic harp organ-type sound is truly awesome, setting him apart from most seasoned players. Johnston is accompanied by Mr. 18 Karat who performs foot drums (bass/snare or bass/high-hat), guitar and vocals. Mr. 18 Karat lays down the beat and supports the duo with classic guitar licks coupled with the cool tone of his Les Paul Special P90âs. Johnstonâs and Mr. 18 Karatâs combined artistry, spirited diversity and creativity have made The Tu-Tones âTexasâ Favorite Two Man Bandâ.

Stompinâ Bill Johnston

While still a teenager, Bill Johnston met George "Harmonica" Smith with Rod Piazza and the Bacon Fat Band in Venice, California at Ricks Blues Bar, a cool, very small bar that had food named after Blues icons {Ike and Tina Tuna sandwich for example}. "I felt like I'd met a rock star! He was the nicest man you would ever want to meet, even gave me some harp lessons! I really learned the most from watching him play countless gigs. He was very good about letting people jam and telling you what he thought, good or bad. I could talk about Mr. Smith forever."

Stompin' Bill honed his chops sharing the stage with Big Mama Thornton, Pee Wee Crayton, Shakey Jake Harris, Smokey Wilson, Johnny Otis alumnus Margie Evans and many others.

Johnstonâs life long friendship with the late harmonica Master William Clarke began with a George Smith show he was promoting. William saw the show flyer at the Light House in Hermosa Beach, CA. "I introduced William Clarke to George Smith. William and I became fast friends, hitting it off right from the start, sharing our admiration of all the great Blues Masters."

Stompin' Bill left California, landing in Texas where he played in various bands. Then in 1986 he journeyed to Las Vegas, Nevada. There he played in the Blues Kings, Mojo Hand, Ruffnecks, John Earl's Boogieman Band, eventually forming his own group - Stompin' Bill Johnston and the Toe Tappers. He returned to Dallas, Texas in 1996, where he's still livin' and playin' the Blues!
