There's nothing nasty about Matty Enright who holds the title of best known, unknown electric guitar sizzler to hail from Montreal, Canada.
Enright as a young teenager started playing the local high school gym circuit in the late 60's with bands called Generations, Wizard, Imagination to name a few. In the early to mid 70's, Matty graduated to being a temp guitar fill-in for bands called Moon Quake, Ely Transfer, Sister Sirloin. During these times the Mattster also could be noticed playing in pickup local house band's formed to back up passing trough recording artists. Artist's like Freddie Cannon who would tour without a band and when Freddie came to town to play a graduation ball, at a posh Montreal downtown hotel, local musicians would be hired to back him up. Matty along with other local musicians would be called in for these types of shows. Enright is also known to have played on the same bill as other era recording artists like Mitch Ryder, for a couple of out of town shows on one of many of Mitch's attempts to restart his expired career. There were also several Eastern Canadian tours in the back up bands of Barry Stagg and Tony Green to promote their pop records which were garnering substantial radio airplay at that time.
In 1974 the Mattster formed Emerald City and toured all across Canada with the "king of the boogie", John Lee Hooker. The next year George Gardos of Mountain fame joined the band and the Vinyl LP "Waiting for the Dawn" was recorded and released. This record is still out there garnering attention from enthusiasts.
Enright also received some international attention for his electric guitar playing on Billy Workman' s LP album and the single "Talk about Money" which was the most played 45 rpm record on AM radio throughout Canada in 1978.
