Christian Essex and Jacob Quimby, two very different musicians, walked into Big Barn Studios one night in May of 2010; by the end of that first session in experimentation, Solo Saloon was born. The two began merging their separate sounds into what has quickly become their signature blend of heart-thrumming rhymes and toe-tapping rhythms, combined with a little xylophone for good measure. Both music and lyrics are guided by basic rules: brevity, sincerity, compositional complexity, and a stiff shot of Jacob's homage-littered wit. Over the past seven months, the duo have tackled everything from love gone wrong to social unrest to Jacobâs own brush with mortality at the hands of violent strangers on the streets of New York. Their first album, the self-titled Solo Saloon, debuts February 2011 on iTunes and CD Baby.
