Darkthrone, Burzum and Mayhem influences are still there. This time the band has pushed the atmospheric vibe further, however. While this is still a take-no-prisoners, heavy and fast BM album, a rather subtle use of keyboards (read: "keyboards that do not suck and do not get in the way") adds a whole new layer to the music, an almost omnipresent dark, evil, sort of horror-like atmosphere at times. Add a little bit of Middle-Eastern tones in "Abdul Al-Hazred", a somewhat chilling, short piano instrumental with "Stars Which Once Were Sacred " that you'd expect to hear in a haunted manor, and the occasional use of melodies that blend well into this devastating onslaught, and you get an album that, while sharing the basics with the debut, throws in enough variety to set it apart and prove that a band can evolve without turning into crap. - Metalcrypt.com
