So, as initially soothing acoustic strums drive the comfort level onward towards weirder sections of perversely altered grooves and outside-meter improvisations, listeners can act out their alt-jazz fetishes with unfettered abandon. In other words, it is possible to dig great musicality undistracted by what makes it so exceptional.



T Bird Love

Yes, yes, all this worldly influence on Western musicality is vital and everything, but itâs become too easy around here to submit to a mass cultural inferiority complex. Itâs reassuring to know travelers like dearest Tbird Luv, whose indelible footprints show older worlds that mysticism can still exist in modern soil. Cheers to the American city girl worthy of an invitation to join remote Indonesian mountain tribesmen for shamanic rituals and Happy Meals.


Folkstuff

Mature ratings are inevitable when the right instruments blend their playersâ collective urgency to hotwire a lusciously tense pedal-based vehicle and careen through windy streets towards downtown. The overcoat-clad occupants of this track seem to be in a bit of a shady, electric, midnight-ish mood. Perhaps a little blast of Brubeck on the radio is all that is keeping them from getting arrested.


A Place Where I Have Not Been

An oddly-metered minor key seems unlikely to calm after a hectic night, yet this subtly eclectic piece lays you back from the unhinged into a kind of coastal cruise through Mediterranean waters. Rarely does one feel so immediately comforted by such foreign lands. This track feels so much beauty that the return home is almost tragic.


Meditation On S. Wonder

Purists may want to skip this contemplative acoustic guitar improvisation or risk becoming unwitting fans of hardcore punk music. Because anyone audacious enough to assault the jazz world with the slightest nudge of â80s mainstream pop music must be the only one in the mosh pit wearing a suit and tie. Now thatâs punk.




Canât Keep Up With The Conspiracies

The inquisitive, by now, will have begun to consider how effectively a composerâs seemingly amiable personality can cover up some rather unsettling inner polarities. Despite their relatively calm tonal disguises, the instruments of this track are quickly exposed as tools of harmonic paranoia. How have we been so willingly deceived so deeply beneath this album? Let the theories abound, people.

Ballad For Bella

This piece almost gets up on its own to dim the lights and cork a bottle of pinot. If a late-night, enigmatic lullaby can indeed exist, let this passage strangely soothe while its edges remain intact. Though named for Davidâs little girl sleeping in the next room during its recording session, innocent younghj psyches may not quite attain inner peace falling asleep to this particular ambiance on a nightly basis

Plevin

The rhythm section keeps this dependably unusual tribe of westernersâL.A. westernersâloose but intact during the albumâs culminating mecca eastward. The melodic passages are playful constructions of modern world complexities enjoying some much-needed R&R. A stream-of-consciousness element pushes and pulls but the steady gait of traditional folk-travel music patiently moves the caravan forward. Though visits with roadside pushers of nomadic life remain brief, this arrangement is clearly driving under plenty of influences, destination unobscured.
