earswideopen is a young piano-trio based in Amsterdam, NL.
Their music is based on (jazz) improvisation; sometimes serious, sometimes slightly mad, maybe a bit sentimental or fat ân groovy. Music from all kinds of sources is welded together in unexpected medleys.
Ever since Achim, Felix and Jurriaan started playing together in 2003, they noticed a common trademark style: âears open and just playâ â hence the name.
The trio produces amazing, swinging, thoughtful, exuberant, beautiful and eardrum bashing sounds. From Ghanese war dances and old-time blues via Thelonious Monk and Jennifer Lopez to their own compositions and completely improvised pieces. Achim, Felix and Jurriaan want to make music that is expressive and happens right here, right now!
For their debutalbum they decided to use only original compositions and free improvisations. 98 of the music You'll hear was performed in 'real time'. In the production, every piece got it's own sound and shape- still, the album is actually ONE long story!
