With that lyric, Portland's The Welcome Home state their goal; progress and grow despite current trends or whatever obstacle may lie ahead. It is that sense of brotherhood and D.I.Y ambition that has helped deem them âsoftcore punk's new flag bearersâ by Absolutepunk.net.

Conceived with a venture to create music that is both infectious and intelligent, The Welcome Home combine influences from bands like Jimmy Eat World with their love for jazz, as well as Motown acts such as Stevie Wonder & The Jackson 5, giving them a unique take on modern pop. The band's debut EP, 2008's The Dictionary Tree, showcased their mature songwriting with complex chordings and patterns while maintaining pop's sing-a-long aspects with single You, like Black Magic being featured on local radio stations such as Seattle's KGRG. Since their inception in 2008, they have shared the stage with bands such as You, Me, and Everyone We Know, Monty Are I, The Scenic, and Rookie of the Year, extensively toured the entire west coast, and headlined some of Portland's most popular venues like The Hawthorne Theater and Satyricon, solidifying a name for themselves in the Northwest's booming music scene.

2010 saw the band at their most prolific, performing at Red Blue Record's showcase at SXSW in Austin Tx, as well as competing in Coca-Cola/Slurpee's Battle of the Bands '10. The contest would earn them a spot opening for Train at the House of Blues in Hollywood, and a music video filmed in by Dreaming Tree Studios in Dallas, Tx. Motivated by the experience the band headed to the studio to record their followup to their 2008 effort. Aptly titled Against A Great Machine, the new record amplifies their musicianship and lyrical prowess while rejecting production standards such as autotune and other performance enhancing techniques. Gearing up for it's release in March of 2011, the band prepare for whatever 2011 may have in store.
