Overheard at a show: "Sort of a Helmet meets The Dukes of Hazard kind of thing."
7 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Hard Rock, METAL: Doom/Stoner Metal
Details:
"The Rockford Mules sound is a dichotomy; like nothing youâve
ever heard before, but at the same time instantly recognizable."
-Bob Longmore, howwastheshow.com
âA hard-driving collection of Skynyrd-meets-metal.â
-Michael Swanger, Cityview
âThey have kind of a âDukes of Hazardâ meets âHelmetâ thing going on.â
- some guy at a show
The Rockford Mules fired up their tubes together for the first time in a Minneapolis basement during the winter of 2005. Friends from former groups that span the spectrum from folk/acoustic to hardcore, this combination of souls resulted in a sound they have come to call âheavy mountain.â
Stampeding lap steel guitar, a bone carving rhythm section, and soulful lyrics, The Rockford Mules sound simultaneously familiar and foreign. The songs draw on the earthy elements of southern rock and Americana, yet are infused with a sonic sneer that occasionally wanders dangerously close to hardcore.
From the Vaudeville studio stable of soundfarmer Jeff Halland comes the firstborn record of the Rockford Mules, "Crooked Tooth." This freshly-shoed kick to your head and heart is a seven song E.P. grazing on the grasses of faith, failure, hope, mud, and miracles. Come ride a mile with these beasts of burden.
The Rockford Mules joined up with Blue Worm Records in January of 2006 and plan on releasing a full length follow up to âCrooked Toothâ in the winter of 2006.
