Formulated in 1996 as "Remnant Militia" the crew released an EP called "A Document" in 1997. The crew quickly grew in acceptance among peers and fans within the underground hip-hop community and made multiple appearances on other groups and artists releases through the following years. In 2001, after a small reformation they dropped "Militia" from their name and have since been simply known as "The Remnant". A dynamic 5 man crew of emcee's: Deacon, Surreal, Drastic, Neogen, and producer/emcee Construct. Just as you will find in their music each member possesses a very different personality, culture, upbringing, and past. Each member brings something different to the table which continues to allow their music to grow and relate to everyday people.

When asked " What are some things that truly inspire you" in an interview with Sphere of Hip-hop, crew member Surreal said it best: "Life, it's problems, it's solutions, it's struggles, and it's victories. Making a difference can not be topped in satisfaction, and sense of accomplishment. I have also been a big fan of the mind, creativity, and craft. For me Art is the reflection of all those things.
