Red Lights are a six-member band from California's central coast, lodged halfway between the clashing cultures of L.A. and San Francisco. The band formed in 2003 and solidified its lineup in early 2004. The debut record "Unlucky Genes" was recorded at home throughout that year, in between shows the band played with visiting musicians such as Calexico, French Kicks, Neko Case, Ted Leo, and others. The group employs a fairly communistic approach to songwriting, arrangement, development, and performance of their material. Aside from the occasional trips to other parts of the west coast, Red Lights have spent their "formative" months gathering steam around the area where they live and are now able to attract large gatherings of real music fans out to their performances. It is far from being a "jam band" but people are frequently known to comment on the unpredictable nature of a Red Lights set on any given night. The album "Unlucky Genes" is largely anticipated around San Luis Obispo, CA and the surrounding areas and the band is very excited to be able to share their music in a more concrete format with anyone who will listen.
