Details:
Modern Dissent began in the spring of 2007 with one goal: To use musical expression to encourage people from all backgrounds to think hard about Jesus Christ with the hope that they would follow and worship him.
MD is dissenting against this post modern age of believing that anything is truth if you believe it to be truth. They know the one and only truth, that the God of the Bible created us and sent his son to die for our sins and they want to proclaim that truth and advance Godâs kingdom!
MD is a 4 piece band based out of Spokane, WA. They consist of Bob Delateur on guitars and vocals, Paul Weber on drums, Seth Weber on second guitar and keyboards, and Joe Sousa on bass. The band started with a perspective that God gave Bob Delateur, as he read the book, Heaven, by Randy Alcorn. (Bob is the primary song writer, vocalist, and guitar player for the band.) In that book he was blown away that heaven was a place where Jesus would fully disclose himself to his people, but that people would still be people and physical creative material would still be physical and culture would still be culture. The people, physical creation, and culture would be fully redeemed in heaven. No sin would corrupt any of these in heaven and Christ would be central. This got Bob thinking about life and culture here and now. He thought that he had become some what of a practical ascetic over the years, devaluing culture, art, and even creation. He thought, âalthough I must live a life of faith in the unseen (God and his precious promises), at the same time my faith can and must have a visible, cultural expressionâ. This perspective freed Bob to explore ways to express his love of Jesus through creativity, art, and other forms of expression. Bob feels that without a doubt he became a better preacher from this perspective and then God gave him a desire to start this band. In early 2007, he thought, âI love music, song writing, guitar playing, people, and Jesus. Why don't I endeavor to meld them all together in some sort of artistic expression?â There were several other guys he knew in the church, who he soon approached. After a period of reflection and prayer the band was formed.
Modern Dissent has been able to play and minister with many groups in the Spokane area and the Northwest. They have played at many public events / festivals. They have been used in ministry with Moody Bible Institute, Campus Crusade, and Northwest Dynamics and other group and youth events at various area churches. They have played with, or opened for, groups including; The Afters, Bryan Duncan, Warren Barfield, Byword, Abandon Kansas, Sleep for Sleepers, The Renewing, VanMarter Project, Power Chief and others. They have been honored to be played on the KDCA, KRLF, and the Pillarcast (at least).
"Rise Me Up With You" was Modern Dissent's debut Album released in 2008. MD released a second CD entitled "My Greatest Showâ in late 2010.
