Details:
"This is WildLives from Salida, Colorado..." Enjoy 28 favorite commentaries from this popular weekly radio series that celebrates the world around usâthe "community of the land." I hope they move you to get to know and find inspiration and sustenance in the world of wild lives wherever you liveâcity, suburb, small town, or deep in the countryside.

It seems to me that many of us feel lost, as if we've cut ourselves off from something we deeply need. I think that what we're missing is an everyday connection with nature, the home of our species. We modern humans like to think we are above belonging to the messy stew of wild relationships that birthed Homo sapiens. But that community is part of who we are, from the myriad microorganisms that help our bodies function to the plants that respire in tandem with our breaths, exhaling the oxygen we breathe in and absorbing the carbon dioxide we exhale. We may have forgotten nature, but the community of the land has not forgotten us. Every day, the other species around us go about their lives in our company. It's often no harder to get to know them than it is our human neighbors, and it's just as enlightening. Better still, it weaves us into the fabric of nature, and brings us home.

I believe that people have a positive role to play in the community of the land, even if we've forgotten it. And I believe that life itself is numinous, charged with spiritual power. As a Quaker, I try to live what I believe. Hence my vocation: rekindling our terraphilia, our innate love of Earth and it's living web of inhabitants large and small, by bringing awareness of our kinship with natureâand the responsibilities and blessings that entails âhome to our daily lives.

My writingâtwelve books and hundreds of articles, essays, stories and newspaper columnsâhas won numerous awards, including the Colorado Book Award, a silver EDDIE Award, ForeWord Book of the Year award, the CAL Top Hand Award, and residencies around the country.

"I look forward to WildLives every week. Your voice and your words make my day." âWildLives radio commentary fan

"Tweit writes with the precision of a scientist and the soul of a poet..." âBloomsbury Review

"A joy to read." âHigh Country News

On a personal note: This compilation began as a project for my mother, who has Alzheimer's Disease. The sound of my voice is soothing to her, so I figured I'd make her a disc with a few of my favorite commentaries from two decades of writing, recording and producing weekly radio commentaries. I spent several weeks selecting 28 commentaries from over 700 programs and re-recording them in my home studio (a Blue Yeti USB mike attached to my trusty MacBookPro laptop). This is a true Local Arts project, coming right out of my 'hood, with musician/composer/neighbor David Tipton adding original music with his Chapman Stick and artist/neighbor Sherrie York doing the cover design. That CD for my mom is now a profession releaseâthanks, Mom, for the inspiration!
