Elizabeth Lyra Ross is originally from Detroit, MI. After graduating from Trinity College in Hartford, CT, she pursued graduate study at the Indiana University School of Music in Bloomington, IN. Since completing her enlistment as a soloist with the United States Army Band and Chorus, Elizabethâs international career has included the roles of Tosca, Aida, Madama Butterfly, both Bess and Serena in Porgy & Bess, Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana, and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. Elizabeth made her debut at New York City Opera in March 2000, and she returned there in March 2002 in Porgy & Bess. This performance was featured on PBSâs âLive from Lincoln Centerâ series and also nominated for an Emmy award. Elizabeth has toured Europe and Japan singing Serena in Porgy and Bess. In Connecticut, Elizabeth has been a featured soloist with the Connecticut Valley Chamber Orchestra, New Britain Chorale, Connecticut Virtuosi, Litchfield County Choral Union, the Waterbury Chorale and the Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra. She has appeared in recital at many churches, libraries, colleges and universities, as well as the Wadsworth Athaneum. Her oratorio repertoire includes the Verdi âRequiemâ, Brittenâs âWar Requiemâ, Mozartâs âGrand Mass in C Minorâ, Mendelssohnâs âElijahâ and Szymanowskiâs âStabat Materâ. Elizabeth has also taught vocal music at the San Juan Center in Hartford, CT. Elizabeth lives in Collinsville, CT and is married to Dr. John C. Norman, Dean of Continuing Education at Northwestern Connecticut Community College in Winsted, CT.
