Details:
Bionik Brown has been a fixture in the N.O. Hip-Hop Scene since 1995 when the City's scene was virtually non-existent. His love for the music however began long before that, as a high pitched school kid in Kmart shoes and corduroys.

Nate Woods, the son of 2 music ministers, rocked his first show at a going away party for his 6th Grade teacher. Little did he know that those humble beginnings would lead to battle victories, touring the country and winning awards for his brand of progressive hip-hop.

Bionik earned his name and reputation with ferocious freestyles that seemed more akin to a machine than a mortal man. Brown however remained the best kept secret locally since he spent much of his youth moving around the country. It is during these travels that Brown developed his diverse flow.

After returning to N.O., Brown hooked up with upstart indie label Renaissance Records and shortly thereafter took the Mic Check 2001 Rap Battle crown, eliminating 32 of the Cityâs best emcees and going on to take 2nd Place at the National contest in San Fran. Bionik then dropped a critically acclaimed debut, "The Darkness and the Light."

With the success of his debut, Brown began performing heavily with acts including the Roots, Common, Talib Kweli, KRS-One and many others. He also managed to earn a Degree in English Writing from Loyola University while touring, recording and performing.

With each show he proved that âNew Orleans hip-hopâ is indeed not an oxymoron. Brown carved a niche in the scene that is refreshingly devoid of the âblingâ aestethic so synonymous with Southern rap.

The Humid Sounds compilation which Brown was a major contributor to led to a 2004 tour which Bionik headlined. Brown created a best selling tour-only EP called "The Cold Gumbo EP." The tour's success led to a shared bill with funk outfit GALACTIC in 2005.

Hip-Hop has grown significantly, and as it has, so has one of its pioneers, Bionik Brown. Now living in Denver, Colorado as a result of Hurricane Katrina, Bionik is keeping New Orleans Hip Hop alive and well while touring Europe, Asia, the Caribbean and of course the States.

With Bionik at the helm of this new movement, itâs going to be a smooth ride for hip-hop fans across the globe!
