Dastardly played their first show in Chicago in January 2010. Very quickly, they climbed the ladder of venues, playing at all the major clubs and gaining a reputation of drawing crowds of 100-150. Their first time at Lincoln Hall, they were just a couple people away from beating Mucca Pazza's record for most walk up ticket sales sold at the venue. They ended the year by headlining Schubas for their record release. Despite the show being their first headlining show, on a weeknight, and during a blizzard, the show was merely 20 people away from selling out.

Their first record, "May You Never....", release in December 2010, received high critical praise from the Chicago blog circuit and won over many fanss. Red Eye/Metromix named Music You Must Hear Now, giving it a 3 out of 4 star review in their daily publication, and the Deli Chicago named it Album of the Month. Select songs received airplay on Q101 and WXRT. At the end of the year, Dastardly came in second for Best Emerging Chicago Artist in 2010, in the judges category and the fan category, receiving over 1,500 votes.

At the beginning of 2011, Dastardly set its eye outside of Chicago to begin playing around the country. They kicked off the year with packed shows in New York City, Boston, and a nearly sold out show in Providence, Rhode Island. The band has also achieved sizable followings in Madison, WI and Western Michigan.
