People claim they want something different, but do they really mean it? It seems every so-called, goddam "indie" rock group exploding on the scene is weighed down by their cowardly insistence on finding that ONE novelty sound that makes them marketable, and then allowing it to sustain them through not just an entire album, but all other subsequent albums they record (we speak of The Decemberists, Cursive ((we have a CELLO, now!), Wolf Parade, Arctic Monkeys, Air, etc).
So why the hell do these pseudo "with-its" of the buying public eat this stuff up? Could it be they're merely sheep dressed in hipster's clothing? Oh, we understand. They want consistency, predictability disguised as non-conformity, the opposing side of the mainstream that follows all the same rules as opposed to the antithesis which breaks them.
That's not what Beaten By Yuri stands for, and it never will be. You want consistency? Tough shit. You want to categorize our sound? Eat the tough shit we spoke of. You want to be able to predict our next move? Not a chance in hell. We refuse to be hampered by the populace's inability to catch up and play mischieviously. Give the tunes a listen. We doubt you'll like every single one.
