Details:
"Learn To Fly" is the culmination of four strong years on the road and a lifetime of songwriting. The songs are solid, the arrangements are fun, deep and moving in their turn. Each song tells a story, and the CD takes you on a journey from the "supersaturated" Halifax Summer in "Just Summer" through the yearning title track, "Learn To Fly" to the fun "Me & My Moon", the blues harp on "Roadsong" to the final "Irish Blessing", which has been Ardyth & Jennifer's most requested song over the years.
This CD features the harps and voices of Ardyth & Jennifer and the incredible acoustic bass of Pam Mason, which ranges from the jazzy, "Still Waters" to the solid bottom end on "The Water Is Wide". There are, once again, a few choice instruments added, such as Hugh Sweeney's tasteful jazz trumpet on "Still Waters" and "Me and My Moon", the heart wrenching Uillean pipes and whistles of Glenn Coolen on "Shule Aroon", "A Toast" and "Gypsy Rover", Ken Shorley's tasteful percussion and Troy MacGIllivray's wonderful fiddle. There are also some fun surprises, such as John Meir's banjo and the sweet blues harp of Jim McCready on "Roadsong".
This CD was a joy to record, mix and master, and to top it all off, Brad Newman created the most incredible graphics to go with it. The CD booklet looks like a miniature scrapbook with pictures from the road, doodles from Jennifer's songwriting notebook and the friendliest coffee stains and wrinkles on all the pages.
This CD is a wonderful treat from beginning to end, and I hope you enjoy it! Let the journey begin...
