â¦Alias the @ikt
Government Name: Michael Luis Lebron
Hometown: Merritt Island, FL - B/W/O Los Angeles, CA
Age: 23
â¦Alias is the new breed of emcee. Simply put. He represents musical progression, while still remaining loyal to hip-hops roots. In an era where rappers are images, and albums are marketing tools, â¦Alias the @ikt (pronounced addict) remains un-phased by the standards of the day. Even when growing up, there was always the need to be original, innovative, influential, and above all, true to who he was. Never content to blend in. Even with this strong emphasis on individuality, he still managed to effortlessly fit in wherever he went. This could very well be the quality that makes him a superstar. Raised in a working class Puerto Rican household, Alias grew up with strong values and an equally strong love for music. With the sounds of salsa and merengue playing constantly, Alias got his start on hip-hop when he was only 6. Noting Run DMC as his first influence, and watching movies like âBreakinââ and âKrush Grooveâ, he grew a strong love for the culture, which would translate into a strong love and passion for writing.
â¦Alias believes he is the future of hip-hop, or at least what a progressive future for the genre should be. No gimmicks, no antics, no publicity stunts, and no trend following. The key in his mind is good music. Not just good beats or good rhymes, but good songs. Strong hooks, lyrics, flows, deliveries, and cadences. His style has been influenced by countless emcees, and molded into a unique sound that is unquestionably his own. His rhyme style is influenced by artists like Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Kool G Rap, and more contemporary lyricists like Big Pun, Mos Def, Canibus, Royce 5â9â, Pharoahe Monch, and Black Thought. Unlike many of the days rappers, he is driven to keep improving his craft, and challenge himself as a song-writer. And something hip-hop is missing: substance. Influenced by socially and politically conscious artists like Nas, Common Dead Prez, Alias started researching subjects like American and Puerto Rican history, and the Young Lords political party in the 60âs and 70âs while he was in high school. This form of higher learning has made him the very conscious and outspoken man (and artist) he is today.
While the message is a very large part of the mc he is, the most important thing is still to make good music. Possibly his greatest tool is that he is able to be very versatile, while still remaining consistent. This is a highly coveted skill that most musicians canât pull off. He has spent years dedicated to improving his craft and studying fundamentals of emceeing, like: flows, vocal tones, melodies, rhyme schemes, deliveries, metaphors and similes, and song structures. With these tools, Alias remains in a league of his own. His style is equal parts raw lyricism, clever battle raps, social and political commentary, emotion and feeling, personal experiences, views, and thoughts; love, life, and everything in between. Music directly from the heart and soul. Alias writes with a passion that hasnât been seen in years. And yet he still claims heâs only just getting warmed up. Stay tuned for whatâs next.
