Details:
Alexander Skliarov was born on July 16th, 1949, in the city of Borisoglebsk, in the
Voronezh region. Since he was 5 years old, Skliarov started playing by ear on his fatherâs chromatic garmonica, and was able to learn his whole repertoire quickly.
At the age of 7, he was able to play most of the familiar melodies on the bayan.
From the age of 8, he studied in the musical school of the city of Borisoglebsk (class of V. P. Maslov), and had his first recitals in front of a live audience. After finishing the school in 1964, Skliarov was accepted into the Musical College of Gnesin (class of A. T. Gatsenko). From 1968, he continued to study in the state-run Gnesin Institute for Music Pedagogics (in the class of A. A. Lubennikov, and then in the class of S. M. Kolobov), until he finished it, in 1973.
During the late 1960âs and early 1970âs, he was actively performing at concerts in
different cities of the Former Soviet Union.
In 1971, Skliarov was the winner of the first prize of the international Coupe Mondiale Accordion Championship in Bruges, Belgium. (He received the highest score in the history of the competition).
Around that time, his performances were broadcast over TV and Radio.
In 1973, he began teaching at the Institute of Arts of Voronezh (since 1989, professor).
From 1978, Skliarov became the soloist of the Voronezh State Philharmonic.
He was awarded a very high honor of âNational Artist of Russiaâ in 1994. In the same year, he recieved a âSilver Diskâ from the Russian Gnessin Academy of Music.
There are many recordings on vinyl and compact disks of the artist, whose performances were held in such countries as: France, Switzerland, Germany, Yugoslavia, Sweden, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Spain, Korea, China, Japan, and many others.
Works by many famous composers were performed for the first time by A. Skliarov.
