âTo me, this band is really the culmination of every project Iâve been in before,â says Jeremy Hagen, Afterglow Radioâs front man. And heâs been in a lot of projects, everything from playing guitar in local Orlando rock bands to backing boy bands on major tours. âItâs also an experience to learn from. Playing with top-notch musiciansâ, Hagen explains, âcan only enhance your songwriting and performance skills.â
Thatâs evident with Afterglow Radio, a band Hagen formed with Eric Palkovic, Preston Wulff and Jorge Alvarez in October of 2005. Afterglow Radio draws from a number of diverse influences to make an eclectic sound thatâs all their own. Take a listen, for instance, to âIn Your Reign,â a song of the bandâs debut eponymous EP. Though dominated by driving drums and guitars and a soaring chorus, the song also takes a turn towards a reggae infusion, a seamless blend of influences that is instantly one of Afterglowâs trademarks.
Produced by Justin Thomas (Faktion, Dark New Day) at Gridlock Studios, the bandâs EP captures this essence flawlessly, as the bandâs blatantly apparent musicianship is balanced by Thomasâ hook-filled production. You can dig deep into a thick bass groove one second then get hit by a chorus that will linger in your head for hours, a la âNot my Love Song,â another favorite from the disc.
