The Dr. Bones Blues Project was inspired by the annual âBack to the Gospel Bluesâ Festival in Chilliwack. Statrted by John and Gail Bones, the band began with an informal praise evening at a local church, but soon found its niche outside of churches, playing for the marginalized and the homeless. The band plays regularly at Victoria's Mustard Seed Street Church dinners, and in BC penitentiaries. It has performed at the Back to Gospel Blues Festival since 2008, and at the Saanich Agricultural Fair since 2009. Its two CD's are live recordings from the Agricultural Fair, the first title "That's No Lie" and the most recent "Tired of Being Blind." Doctor Bones has evolved its sound and performs a variety of tunes, including covers and its own compositions, all of which use the blues to spread the Gospel message. It has in its song bank music from such diverse artists as Kaiser and Mansfield, Blind Boys, Tom Waits, Ruthie Foster, Larry Howard, Natalie Merchant and Ian Siegal. Dr. Bones continues a monthly gig at the Mustard Seed Street church, bringing its music to the homeless and low income folks, and being totally blessed in return. These folks live the blues most days and appreciate what we do- âblues redemptionâ through the Gospel of Jesus. The Project features Gary Brewer (guitar), Alan Bisson (guitar), Mike Philip (bass), Ron Cole (drums), Gail Bones (vocals) and John Bones (blues harp, vocals).
