The Westport Sunrise Sessions formed when three friends took a weekend trip to Westport, New York in a sputtering Cadillac packed with music gear. They spent three marathon days and nights writing and recording songs in a garage filled with tractors and dead rabbits. As the sun came up on the last dawn, they found their name, unplugged the amps and headed home. Four months later; a loft in Brooklyn, more songs, more sleepless nights, and a gnawing suspicion they had something weird and special on their hands.
It's an album born of country air and the digital city hustle, crackling with the electricity of the creative moment. From the bittersweet balladry of 'Celebration Blues' to the cranky junkyard beats and hyper-vivid imagery of 'The Prize'; from the glitch and drone majesty of "Spanish Eyes' to the tears-in-your-beer honky-tonk of 'Jolene', this is an album that rewards the fearless listener with it's secret hooks and emotional urgency.
Band members Jason Broome, Lucas Van Lenten and Daniel Weintraub have created a musical collective formed of like minds and entwined histories. After nearly twenty years of cross-continental musical collaboration and experimentation, they have found a home in the Westport Sunrise Sessions.
Jason Broome also performs as a solo artist and runs the Diablo Dulce record label in upstate New York. He recently moved to the woods to write a book about his Mom and to escape the madness. Lucas Van Lenten just released his debut solo album Slowpoke. He lives in Brooklyn, NY where he recently starred in two of Daniel's movies, as a subway cowboy (For A Few Quarters More) and a post-apocalyptic loner (Static). Said movie-maker Daniel Weintraub, resides down the block from Lucas. He has released three solo albums as Backworldsmen, combining a mix of beats, country folk and hard luck into sweet and sinister musical tales.
The Westport Sunrise Sessions had a successful tour in Spain last December with drummer and co-conspirator Robert Kitsos. They are currently promoting their record in and around New York City while simultaneously working on a second full length album.
