Heâs jammed with Steve Miller, traded notes with Isaac Hayes and played for President Clinton, yet Trevor Ras prefers to keep his feet planted firmly on solid ground. After leaving a budding music career in Portland for an entertainment publicist job in L.A., heâs resurfaced in Southern California with an old-school twist on pop music that has industry ears listening. Catchy melodies, heartfelt lyrics and his soulful saxophone blend with a penchant for funky beats and campfire sing-a-longs giving him a unique style- one that lands him comfortably between Van Morrison and Jack Johnson, The Doobie Brothers and Crosby, Still, Nash and Young.

His new EP, titled âLet It Rollâ harkens back to a much simpler time, when electronic tricks and digital gimmicks were no match for groove, melody, lyrics and a great hook. And while the recording and songwriting are strongly rooted in the present, the vibe suggests youâre listening to John Mellencampâs âJack and Dianeâ for the first time or watching the sunset, singing along to Van Morrisonâs âBrown Eyed Girl.â

âI grew up with all those cats. There were so many nights around the campfire or at BBQs singing our hearts out and jamming to those tunesâ¦Theyâre my roots. Those songs and artists had to sink into my own writing. It was inevitable,â says Trevor with a smile.

If thereâs anyone who stays true to their roots its Trevor Ras. Recorded and co-produced by long time friend Adam Gershon at Even Audio in West L.A. (www.evenaudio.com), âLet It Rollâ is filled with thoughtfully crafted tunes that come straight from the heart. From the reminiscent look at growing up in the title track to driving down the back roads of America with best friends in âThe Journey,â Ras is intent on giving meaning to lifeâs experiences through song.

The only track on the record he did not write is the lead off track, âCall Me Tonightâ which is a crowd favorite written by Gershon from their days in the popular NW college band Big Time Rosie.

ââCall Me Tonightâ was a tune we never recorded in the studio and Itâs one of those timeless songs that deserves to be given itâs full due,â comments Ras. âIt has always been one of my favorites.â

As for the title of the EP, it was inspired by Trevorâs recent decision to go full time into music yet again. Leaving a high profile job as an entertainment publicist behind, Ras realized he would much rather spend his time chasing around something he truly loved than follow around celebrities in the Hollywood Hills.

âIâve been playing music all my life. Itâs what I love to do and I figure life is too short not to be happy. So this EP represents the beginning of a much longer path. I couldnât be more excited to be chasing this dream.â

The singer/songwriter/saxophonist has been busy of late, reconnecting old fans to the new project, gathering fresh ones in small clubs from L.A. to Seattle and writing and recording songs for his full length debut late this summer. For now he is performing mostly solo acoustic (using a loop station to incorporate the sax) and duo shows with his own material, but also can be found playing saxophone with various projects around the L.A. scene (including former Portland standouts the Scott Fisher Project & Justin Hopkins Band).
