Details:
I always had at least one guitar since my college days in the 60âs. Iâm essentially self taught and got my start by jamming with a younger brother and friends but it never went beyond a basement, bedroom, or living room venue (sometimes these were all the same room). Took a break from playing, with any regularity, for too many years. In the 70âs and 80âs I did sculpture and metal work, getting my BFA from Wayne State in Detroit; all while holding down the same day job, forever. Got back into playing guitar per doctors orders, about four years ago, while recovering from heart surgery. It was an ayurvedic physician who told me to do something to nurture my heart; like playing with children, taking walks in nature, or making music. Bingo! It was about that time the Iraq War was still just a possibility (the good old days), which prompted me to squeeze out a number called, WW Peace. Since then, songs continue to pop out and Iâve turned into an open mic junkie in the Metro Detroit / Windsor /Ann Arbor / Ypsilanti areas. My songs are personal and usually involve where I think I might have been , where I am, and where I might be going. My guitar work is not overly innovative (yet) but being self taught and repetitively stubborn gives it a signature. Practicing and learning a song, as I write it, is an expanding and contracting process between cord changes, fingering, rhythm, melody, and lyric. All influenced by the choice of emotional thrust for a desired result that leads me to a sense of wholeness and release. In other words, itâs not over until the skinny guy sings. Thanks to any listeners, for the chance to share some of my heart nurturing.
