CLASSICAL: Traditional, LATIN: Tango

Details:
TWO PART INVENTION is a duet of flute and guitar, performing a wide repertoire ranging from Elizabethan ballads to modern commissioned works. "This combination of flute and guitar...is a winning one," hails Allentown's Morning Call, and praises their "lovely, goosebump-inducing performances" as well as their "great skill and musicality." Creatively programmed concerts may blend Bach's baroque mastery with contemporary Argentine tangos, or feature original arrangements of historical Moravian music, classics from the great guitar virtuosos of the 19th century, dances from around the globe, or more. Their first CD recording, a selection of flute and guitar music from Latin America, is now available.

JOHN S. ARNOLD, guitarist, is presently the classical guitar instructor at Moravian College, Bethlehem, PA, and taught previously at Vermont's Bennington College. In addition to his numerous solo performances, he has performed as guest artist with both the Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra's Valley Vivaldi series and the Sage City Symphony. As a chamber musician, Mr. Arnold has performed at the Guitar Foundation of America, Guitar Ensemble Festival, Kennedy Center Festival of the Human Voice, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Virginia's Bach-Handel Festival, and on National Public Radio. He is the winner of the T. Edgar Shields Prize for distinguished studio instruction at Moravian College, where he is also the founder and director of the annual Bethlehem Guitar Festival. Mr. Arnold holds an Artist Diploma degree from the Hartt School, University of Hartford, as well as Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Guitar Performance and Guitar Pedagogy from Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University.

NORA SUGGS, flutist, is a graduate of Houston's Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine, with extensive private education in music and degrees in biology, English literature, medicine, and surgery, and has performed in England, Canada, Japan, and throughout the United States. Dr. Suggs is a founding member of the Lehigh Valley's classical chamber music ensemble SATORI, and a regular performer of both traditional and contemporary chamber works. In addition to numerous solo performances, she is active as a teacher, recitalist, and free-lance musician, and performs on both modern and baroque flute. Dr. Suggs teaches at Bethlehem's Moravian College and coaches flute ensembles at the Community Music School of the Lehigh Valley, plays flute, pennywhistles, and uillean pipes with Emerald City, a Celtic/rock band, and is studying shakuhachi, a traditional Japanese flute.
