Details:
Canadian indie roots guitarist, singer, and songwriter Trevor Tchir currently thrives on uniting the dual sounds of rural and urban spaces. His sound has been influenced by that of J.J. Cale, Townes Van Zandt, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Gillian Welch, and Bill Bourne.

On his latest album, "November" (2001), Tchir's acoustic fingerpicking is complemented by the funky Rhodes and Hammond organ work of Pierre Chrétien, the lead guitar of Chris Lochner, and the harmonies of Ottawa singer-songwriters Peter Webb, Mary Kate Haché (Jacob Two-Two), and Julie Larocque. Tchir's songs on "November" center on themes of faith, forgiveness, ecological responsibility, and the place of spirituality within an increasingly scientific and technologically geared society.

Tchir's earlier release, "The Way I Feel Today" (1999), was recorded live-to-tape with just voice, acoustic guitar and harmonica, with songs exploring the meaning of home, the vagaries of young love, and the vastness of his home country.

Originally from and now based out of Edmonton, Alberta, Tchir spent seven years in Ottawa, where he performed regularly and hosted the popular Café Nostalgica open stage. Past performances include opening slots for Priya Thomas, Garnet Rogers, Drums & Tuba, Richard Wood, and Julie Larocque. He is co-producer of "Thursday Heroes: Live At Café Nostalgica" (2003), a live compilation of nineteen of Ottawa's best music and spoken-word poetry acts. Tchir, 24, is now working on his third record, one ranging in styles from alt-country to traditional folk to horn-fused reggae. In September, 2004, he begins a PhD in Political Philosophy at the University of Alberta.
