Timbuk II is a name that is both a play on words and a metaphor. Timbuk (Roman numeral two âIIâ) signifies two (2) Artists as opposed to the known Capital City of a West African nation âTimbuktuâ. The name is also a metaphor for a place thatâs distant or far off. The way the rap game is going today, Timbuk II is both a good distance ahead in ability and far off the beat and path. The two (2) members âBlueprintâ and the âGeneralâ grew-up in âTha Hoodâ. Both were exposed (at an early age) to the conditions of the mean streets of Los Angeles. Growing-up in poverty and living amongst gang infested neighborhoods, âBlueprintâ and the âGeneralâ acquired a keen street knowledge and developed a hard edge for their music. Although, they were raised in such hostile environment, both were born lovers-of-music. âBlueprintâ had a combination of superb lyrical skills and peppered with some life experiences, he spent years honing his talents to be a top notched MC and Producer to ever pick-up a microphone. As for the âGeneralâ growing-up in South Central LA, the atmosphere was just a part of the backdrop and through calm and collectiveness of his hostile surroundings, he perfected his craft and ability to rhyme and produce âhotâ tracks by pecking-out-tunes on the piano.

Living and performing with gangster Rappers did not influence Timbuk II to succumb to gangsterism. They are two (2) MCâs who used their craft to describe life in general. Signed to Raw Naked Entertainment (RNE, as the label is known) Timbuk IIâs first Billboard charted single, âBroke & Triflinâ speaks about people having âlittleâ or ânoâ money and the things they do to make their endsâ meet. Itâs neither negative nor positive. Just plain real! The song Broke & Triflin pave way for RNE to release their Album âStrandedâ and another Billboard Chart single âOnly Live Onceâ. Their style primarily focus on bringing fun back into music. Their talent has allowed them the opportunity to express their experiences and intuitions through many of Southern California/Los Angeles area. They have participated in such events as radio station KDAY âWorld On Wheelâ festive to showcasing with major Artists and other up and coming Acts. They have also completed their first Midwest âMeet and Greetsâ tour. The tour took them too many Midwestern communities as Chicago, Detroit, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo where they showcased an incredible Industry Night event hosted by Jazzie Productions. In addition, concluded with television, radio and press interviews in Chicago, Detroit and Grand Rapids. No matter the community, the reception to Timbuk IIâs presence is well received.
