Tommy Ryan (born Ryan Waczek) got into music at a young age. HIs father was his first teacher and introduced him to his first instrument, his voice. Ryan really enjoyed, music so he started learning new instruments. Throughout the years he has played many â saxophone, guitar, piano, drum set⦠the list goes on and on. His senior year of high school he played upright bass in orchestra.
Ryanâs true passion was performing. He created a rock band called âDaylight Breakingâ which eventually morphed into the alternative band "For Venice. He learned a lot from the group: how to arrange rock music, how to manage, and how chemistry is important. But as Ryan said, âit was basically a crash course in band; I didnât know what I was doing.â They played a few shows in different venues â a café, the local middle school, a festival â but the other group members were not that serious about the whole thing. âIt was more just for fun. The amount of time we spent practicing and just jamming was way more than the actual performing. It was just about writing songs, trying to figure out how to actually sound good.â
The band was put on hold when Ryan left home to attend college at Cal Poly â but Ryan did not want that to slow his band career down. Along with being a music major, he began working on his next big project: a solo album. The name would now be âTommy Ryanâ (his middle name, then first). He decided that he would use songs he wrote for his old bands as well as a new original â âWhat Youâve Doneâ. But he did not record them exactly how they were before. âI pretty much arranged all the songs on the spot â they werenât exactly the same as the originals. I do like to mess with arrangements.â He planned on recording around six songs over the three-week-long break from school by recording each instrument one by one himself.
This EP album is the result of many years of songwriting and hard work.
