Details:
Kelly Ruth was born in a small town in the Bible belt of Pennsyltucky (all the area in Pennsylvania between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh). One day, while out strolling barefoot in the cornfields she stumbled upon a crippled upright bass that had broken itsâ scroll. She took pity on the poor bass and carried it to her neighbor, banjo extraordinaire, Justin Arawjo.
She found him weaving a basket and drinking moonshine. After examining the bassâ injury, together, they decided such damage was beyond their ability to ârepair-ifyâ and decided to train hop to the big city of Philadelphia.
Kelly and Justin were overwhelmed by all the commotion and cheese steaks in Philadelphia and forgot why they had come until Kelly heard the sweet southern drawl of Franklin Gregory Moore singing, âRing of Fireâ. Greg left his hometown in Georgia due to his broken heart from a southern belle. He found himself enrolled at the University of the Arts after stealing the guitar of a hopeful student shamelessly covering Dave Mathews. They quickly made his acquaintance and he offered them a mint julep and his guitar services.
Still needing to mend the broken bass, the three continued on in search of a string repair shop. Walking down Broad street they heard a great noise âround the corner and quickened their pace to see what ever was the matter. They found Andy Greenhow, a New Orleans preacher man helping the homeless alongside Vinchelle Woods saving souls, singing songs about Jesus, her Lord and Savior!
Andy, being a cellist, was able to fix Kellyâs bass. The five were overjoyed with this and decided to form a band of friends. Andy, well-versed in Hebrew from his studies at Princeton Theological Seminary, told the others that Kellyâs middle name âRuthâ meant âfriendâ or âcompanionâ thus they decided to call themselves, Kelly and the Ruths. This is the story of the band birthed from the sweet tender loins of Fate and Friendship.
