Gina Sobelâs arresting, unique sound is a textured blend of soulful blues, earthy folk, and cerebral, rhythmic jazz. This amalgam is no accident; Ginaâs childhood was suffused with music of every kind, and she flourished as a young woman playing alongside her father, jazz guitarist Mike Sobel. It was in these early days that Gina developed her keen improvisational ear and her love for musical intricacy. In an early act of defiance, Gina charted her own course through the seas of popular music, focusing her attention on the flute and saxophone. She discovered her passion for the guitar only after leaving home for the first time, when she needed accompaniment for her blues-tinged vocals. Today, Gina makes her home in Charlottesville, where she performs with Americana-fusion band, The Rock River Gypsies.
