Details:
Thando Rhythms Records announces the release of Lerato, featuring the last recordings by South Africa's legendary Dolly Rathebe and her soul sister, Sharon Katz, before Dolly's untimely passing. "Lerato" means love, the name Dolly gave to Sharon as they performed together and worked together to build a better future for South Africa's peoples. The jazzy tracks hearken to the free-spirited days of Sophiatown before apartheid. Coupled with the catchy rhythms and Sharon's unmistakable guitar and vocal styles, your heart and then your feet will lead you to the dance floor for this intrinsically South African experience.

The 75-year old songbird Dolly Rathebe was also South Africa's first black movie star in the 1950's and recently featured in Anant Singh's remake of "Cry, the Beloved Country" opposite James Earl Jones. Although she was Miriam Makeba's mentor and a star in South Africa, apartheid kept Dolly's superb voice a hidden gem from the rest of the world until now.

South Africa's Sharon Katz is founder of The Peace Train project that took hundreds of musicians of all races on tour by train to help break through apartheid's barriers. Performing worldwide to spread Nelson Mandela's vision of a Rainbow Nation, Sharon Katz & The Peace Train also raise funds for music-driven HIV/AIDS prevention and youth development projects in South Africa. Their recording credits also include the Grammy-nominated Imbizo and Carnival! with Sting, Elton John, Tina Turner and Madonna.

Adding to Sharon's and Dolly's rich vocals is Philisiwe "Shophi" Ngidi. The all-star band includes Nhlanhla Brian Thusi, Maqinga Radebe, Themba Ngcobo, Pillani Ngidi, Ayanda Sikada, Junius Wilson, Eric Roberts, Lynn Riley, Mdu Mhlongo & Elias Ngidi. Lerato was engineered and mixed in South Africa by Malo-D and produced by Sharon and Malo-D.
Lerato is distributed in South Africa by Universal Sound Music and in America by www.CDBaby.com & www.SharonKatz.com
