Details:
Sound of Birds is an art-rock project based in Phoenix Arizona, currently consisting of Michael Red (guitar/vocal), Justin White (drums), Doug Littlefield (guitar) and Tato (bass). Sound of Birds began as a home recording project for Michael Red with his "So Low" release through 56th Street Records (indie) in Feb 2002.
The first solo performance by Sound of Birds was at the Paper Heart Gallery in Dec 2003 to an audience of 35. Feb 2004 brought the completion of the second SOB disk, "Eden". This seven song solo EP, recorded at Phoenix's Portal Records, brought more aggressive guitar tones and vocal shading compared to the first disc. A video for the single "Sideshow", with the assistance of Steve Schneider and performances by Stephen Strange (magician master of the mystic arts) and Matti Baine (trapeze artist), was released Jan 2004.
Mar 2004 brought Olivier Zahm into the fold with a wall of guitar feedback, and by Apr 2004, Justin White's position as SOB's drummer was secure. Two intense weeks of rehearsing brought the trio to their first public performance at the Emerald Lounge on April 21, 2004. They continued to play most art spaces downtown Phoenix has to offer. Recording for the four song "Emerald EP" began at the Conservatory of Recording Arts in Tempe, AZ, and finished at Olivier's own Electric Lotus in 2004. Michael, Justin and Olivier toured the West Coast during the summer of 2005 in support of this recording.
SOB found themselves back in the Conservatory in Jan and May of 2006, recording three more songs, adding Tato on bass. A live performance in Sep 2006 at Monroe's Underground in Phoenix was captured on tape and included Doug Littlefield on lead guitar. These recordings, along with acoustic home demos recorded during September and October were compiled into the 16 song lo-fi LP, "Home Demos and Such", released Nov 2006.
Sound of Birds currently play the Phoenix Metro area and the US Southwest. Updated information, show dates and more can be found at: myspace.com/soundofbirds
