BAY AREA BAND PUTS A NEW TWIST ON JAZZ IN THEIR FIRST RELEASE

9 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Jazz Fusion, ROCK: Instrumental Rock

Details:
Somethingfour pays homage to their jazz roots with their first recording effort called According to the Laws of Chance. The four piece instrumental band avoids pop clichés and rewards the adventurous listener with intricate songs in odd meters demonstrating the ensembleâs ability to compose and improvise. With nods to Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Bill Frisell, Somethingfourâs new album is sure to be embraced by the jamband audience as well as fans of jazz.

Somethingfourâs sound pushes the boundaries of traditional fusion and experimental jazz rock. Saxophonist Barry "B-Town" Thompson on alto and tenor brings his experience from big bands to rock in a Coltranequese melodic dance through the tunes. Guitarist Christopher Zanardi forms the heart of the Somethingfour sound with his original compositions, soaring leads and innovative textures. Bassist Will Rees focuses the flow of the improvisational energy with a foundation of groove and tasteful soloist support, occasionally stepping up to explore the bass's rich baritone melodies. Drummer Jme Brill drives the music with a new approach to rhythm and accompaniment that reflects his diverse influences.

According to the Laws of Chance was recorded in the Winter of 2005/2006 under the hands and ears of award winning engineer, Cookie Marenco (Charlie Haden, Tony Furtado, New Monsoon) To achieve the maximum depth of sound, the band chose to record on analog tape rather than the current standard of digital recording. âNot only can you HEAR the difference, you can FEEL the differenceâ says Marenco. âItâs a tribute to these young musicians that they can actually play the parts, use human dynamics and not manufacture it on the computer.â

To support the upcoming album release, Somethingfour will be playing shows throughout California. Their shows have attracted the attention of acclaimed musicians such as Cecil âP-nutâ Daniels, Kai Eckhardt (John McLaughlin Trio,Garaj Mahal) & Eric Levy(Garaj Mahal). The band's longevity is certain with write ups in the highly acclaimed jazz publication âAll About Jazzâ. The CD is now available at the bandâs website, CD baby or downloaded at ITunes.
