Southbay is a new band in the central New York area. Although just released, their debut album "U" has already received favorable airtime on local upstate NY radio shows with "A Scene in a Movie." Included on the album is the awarded "Loving Rose Marie;" a semi-finalist in the Great American Song Contest. Stylistically, the songs take you through a path of pop jazz to today's top 40. Musically, it's exciting and catchy, with yearning melodies revealing a "Beatles- with- a- twist -of -Steely Dan" influence.
Lyrically, it takes you through the story of a romance gone bad ending with the powerful "Losing Rose Marie."

For years we had looked rather cautiously at performing our own songs for the public fearing a disservice to the local listeners who mostly want to go out and hear covered songs played well. And so that's what we did. We set out to perform some of the greatest and most challenging pop music ever written. The Beatles, Van Halen, Paul Simon, Joe Jackson, Phil Collins, Basia, and Steely Dan, were some of the artists we'd taken on, but enough was enough. Something was missing at the end of each show. Then in the summer of 2000, everything changed.
It was time to work under no one else's rules but our own. We wrote and rewrote constantly, day and night, building our ideas and our sound from all the music we'd played in the past. We exhausted all our skills (and all our money) to design and build an environment hoping these songs would take on life! This was home for the next two years. With the exception of some great backup vocals by Jennifer Zory on "Sunday Afternoon," the CD represents our best effort at writing and recording what had come to be.
