Sa'J 7 isn't a typical hip hop band and Sa'J is a typical emcee. Originating from the grounds of the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University, Sa'J 7 is an eclectic squad whose music combines a number of genres to create what they call "Hip-Funk". The group's name has two meanings: "Sa'J" characterizes the zodiac sign of the founder and emcee, Tim Lowe; and "7" represents the seven types of music that influence their sound (hip hop, R&B, funk, blues, jazz, gospel, and rock). Tim ( a.k.a. Sa'J) organized the group with the vision of revitalizing the presence of live instruments in hip hop, which is the foundation of their sound. The usual roster of the group is a rapper, a singer, and a five-instrument combo. All of the members have been playing their respective instruments for years, perfecting their skills with various bands. In the union of Sa'J 7, they brought together years of seasoning and musical maturity to garner a great and unique sound.
