'Castel Voiaj' is a radical departure for The State, who have previously made guitar-based alternative music, as heard on the debut album 'The State', also available from cdbaby.

This album retains the bright melodies and soothing soundscapes of previous efforts, but with a conceptual edge. This album is a journey through a mysterious castle, each track telling a different part of the story, from the voyage through wind and rain ('The Forest'), the journey through the castle ('Corridors'), a meeting with a strange lady in one of the rooms ('Porcelain Doll'), to the thrilling finale ('Escape') and much more inbetween.

The album is made up of entirely of old orchestral instruments such as cello, viola, harpsichord, reed organ, horns and violin, plus some haunting vocals on a few of the songs and a full orchestra for the final song.
