"Music for a Martini Lounge on Mars," according to Mason Jones of dustedmagazine.com, "With jazzy, out there semi-pop songs dominated by intricate rhythms thanks to the use of Chapman Stick in conjunction with the drums, Stuck showcase a quirky sense of humor in conjunction with excellent technical chops."
Bill Ribas of nyrock.com likes the martini analogy, too. "Like the initial buzz and head rush of a good martini (shaken, not stirred)," he says. And he selected "We're STUCK" as one of the best indie releases of 2002!
Singer Chisa is a "skat/pop diva" (Wade Contreras, arts editor, beyondmainstream.com). Likened to Bjork by more than one reviewer "her vocals are sensual, fun and accomplished".
But what makes STUCK so "STUCK" is the Stick -- the Chapman Stick, that is -- played by Pat Cahill (who also plays trumpet). Greg Howard (www.stick.com) says, "Cahill sneaks into the listener's head with his highly musical use of myriad "guitar" sounds and techniques. Everything from wild bends, chunky distorted rhythm parts, angular answering figures, big Andy Summers-style chords and even liquid-smooth jazz lines a la Abercromie or Metheny."
"We're STUCK" also features drummer Alex Fortuit, bassist Matt Pavolka and percussionist Loui Terrier who are the groove force of STUCK. They churn the beats from odds to evens, pitch them forward or swagger 'em back, and get you in the p-ART-y mood...
Pavolka also adds a bit of humor with his flatulent trombone on a few tracks like "Let's Get Naked" (track #2). Judi Silvano guests on flute to bring beautiful authenticity to a fusion-y tune about "Goin' Out" (track #11). Guest pianist Mika Pohjola lends mystery and grace to "Her Light," (tracks #8 & #9) a spacey homage to the miracle of the night sky.
