After producing his second record "Mellow Dia" for the Brazillian label RIO8, Zach ashton returned from Sao Paulo to San Diego and began recording Sweet Nothings in October of 2004. Using long-time friend Alan Sanderson (Elton John, Rolling Stones, Ryan Adams) as engineer and Brazillian Sergio Soffiatti as producer, the album was completed in only three weeks. Zach Ashton's unique ability to change genres shines bright on Sweet Nothings. Shifting from Reggae and Latin rythmes, Sweet Nothings strips away Ashton to his raw form. Keeping the arrangements as minimal as possible, Sweet Nothings grabs the soul of the listener. Producer Soffiatti stated- "These songs are beautiful in the sense that you know you have never heard them before, but you feel comfortable with them... they remind you of things that Zach Ashton could not possibly know about your life."
