Steve Martin is band director, physical education teacher, and vice-principal at North Shore Junior Academy in Chicago, Illinois. An accomplished musician, who plays numerous instruments, he is also an award-winning teacher. He received a Zapara Excellence In Teaching Award in 1992, and was listed in Whoâs Who Among Americaâs Teachers in â92, â98, â02, and â05. He has also been listed as one of the National Honor Roll's Outstanding American Teachers in 2006.
Martin completed bachelor's degrees in physical education and music education with classical guitar emphasis in 1982 at Southern Adventist University. In 1990 he received a master's degree in music education from VanderCook College of Music.
Martin is also a recording artist who has performed on eighteen different instruments on six CDâs. He has played for a number of years in bands, orchestras, and smaller ensembles, including everything from string quartet (cello) to Dixieland and bluegrass bands (usually banjo). He has provided music for a variety of occasions such as SDA Campmeetings, wedding services and receptions, and local and national festivals and conventions.
